The first awareness programme for counsellors on the need to establish a unified network that enables direct intervention by Government and Non – Government institutions in the rehabilitation process and in eradicating the drug menace—processes in which the Bureau of Rehabilitation plays a direct role in supporting the current government’s anti-drug initiatives—was launched on 14.10.2025, targeting the Gampaha District.
The inaugural session was held under the patronage of Hon. Harsha Nanayakkara, Attorney-at-Law, Minister of Justice and National Integration, with the participation of Hon. M.M. Mohamed Muneer, Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs, Mr.UP Abewikrama, Gamapaha District Member of Parliament, Mr.Ruwan Mapalagama – Gamapaha District Member of Parliament, Senior Professor Wasantha Subasinghe, Chairperson of the Bureau of Rehabilitation, Dr. Indika Wanninayake, Chairman of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, and Brigadier M.S. Amith, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, along with invited guests and counsellors.
