Anti-Drug Walk to Mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking – ‘Ratama Ekata’ National Programme

In parallel with the ‘Ratama Ekata’ National Programme to Combat the Menace of Illicit Drugs, an anti-drug walk was held on 26 June 2026 to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The walk commenced at Galle Face Green and proceeded to the Kollupitiya Junction.

The event was held under the patronage of Mr Ananda Wijepala, Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs; Mrs Saroja Savithri Paulraj, Minister of Women and Child Affairs; and Mr Sunil Watagala, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs.

The walk was attended by Mr Ravi Seneviratne, Secretary to the Ministry and former Deputy Inspector General of Police; Mr J. A. K. Mark, Chairman of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board; Senior Professor Wasantha Subasinghe, Chairperson of the Bureau of Rehabilitation; Brigadier Shiran Amith, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation; as well as numerous government officials and representatives of the Sri Lanka Police, the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, and the Bureau of Rehabilitation.

The event demonstrated a strong collective commitment towards raising public awareness and promoting national efforts to prevent drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking, while reinforcing the shared responsibility of building a safe and drug-free society.
